Eurostar has announced a major €2 billion investment to purchase up to 50 new double-deck trains from Alstom, based on the Avelia Horizon platform. The first of these will enter service in early 2031, with a 20% capacity boost per train (around 540 seats per 200 metre set, or 1,080 in a 400 metre formation). The new fleet, named “Eurostar Celestia”, supports Eurostar’s goal of reaching 30 million annual passengers and will operate across its five-country network, plus future links to Geneva and Frankfurt. Sustainability and accessibility are featured prominently in the design.
