Tanzania is set to introduce mandatory inbound travel insurance for foreign visitors arriving in the country from 1 October 2026. Under the new requirement, visitors travelling to Mainland Tanzania will be required to obtain an inbound travel insurance policy through the National Insurance Corporation (NIC), while visitors travelling to Zanzibar will be covered under a separate arrangement with the Zanzibar Insurance Corporation (ZIC).

The policy for Mainland Tanzania is priced at USD 44 per visitor and provides coverage for up to 92 days. The new requirement forms part of Tanzania’s efforts to ensure international visitors have access to essential insurance protection during their stay.

If entering Mainland Tanzania first:
Applicable visitors should obtain NIC Inbound Travel Insurance. If they subsequently travel to Zanzibar, they will not need to purchase the Zanzibar (ZIC) insurance again. A copy of the NIC insurance certificate should be retained for verification.
