Kenya Airways has begun flying one of its new B787 Dreamliner aircrafts between Nairobi and Hanoi, and onwards to Guangzhou. Its maiden flight departed from the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport at 2220 hours on 30th March 2015 and arrived at the Noi Bai International Airport at 1155 hours local time on 31st March 2015. It will be flying 3 times weekly (Monday, Wednesday and Friday) between Nairobi and Hanoi and connecting onwards to Guangzhou.
Kenya Airways’ Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Mbuvi Ngunze said that the introduction of the flight was in line with the airline’s strategy to connect Africa with Asia.
“Vietnam has shown a considerable and stable economic growth over the recent years and there has been increased trade between the East Asia country and African markets. Our direct flights to Hanoi will offer easy connectivity to business and leisure travelers and will open up trade opportunities between the two fast growing regions,” said Mr Ngunze.
He noted the as the first airline to directly connect Vietnam to Africa Kenya Airways will leverage on the opportunities to grow ties between Africa, Vietnam and the larger Asian market mainly driven by trade labour relations and tourism.
