On September 7, 2018, join the ultimate celebration of life as newborn baby gorillas are named during the 14th hosting of Kwita Izina in Kinigi, Volcanoes National Park, Rwanda.

The ceremony to name a newborn baby, commonly known as “Kwita Izina”, has been part of Rwandan culture for centuries. The name attributed to a baby gorilla plays a significant role in the ongoing program of monitoring each individual gorilla in its family group and habitat. This year 18 babies are expected to be named.
Beginning on August 31, activities around the baby-naming will start. These include Familiarization tours, a conservation exhibition, a conference titled “Conversation on Conservation”, and the week will wrap up with the naming ceremony for the baby gorillas.
Volcanoes National Park was awarded 1st place among the 2018 Top 100 Awards as a Sustainable Destination (Best of Africa) in recognition of its efforts towards responsible tourism and distinctive appeal.
