The new state-of-the-art airport terminal at Julius Nyerere International Airport (JNIA) in Dar es Salaam is set to open this June. The new Terminal 3 building will be able to park 24 large aircraft at one time, and has the capacity to handle up to six million passengers per year. Parking for over 2000 cars and the ability to screen up to 2800 passengers per hour will allow the terminal to handle all current traffic and provide room for growth in air travel.
Funding shortages delayed the opening, which was originally slated for 2015, but once those issues were resolved, construction resumed and the terminal will open a few short months from now. The airport expansion is part of the Tanzanian government’s long-term plan to make Tanzania a regional hub for air travel and boost the tourism sector of the country’s economy.
