Kenya has officially opened the expanded Tsavo West Rhino Sanctuary, now the largest rhino sanctuary in the world, covering about 3,200 km² to support the recovery of critically endangered black rhinos. The sanctuary brings together rhinos from smaller, overcrowded areas into a vast, secure habitat to improve breeding success, genetic diversity and long-term population growth. President William Ruto highlighted the move as a major step in wildlife conservation, boosting Kenya’s role in global rhino protection and contributing to economic growth through tourism and community benefits.
