As a means to spur tourism and international investment in Zanzibar, Finance Minister Dr. Khalid Mohammed proposed doing away with the stamp duty added to airline tickets in Zanzibar. The aim is to boost job creation and grow the island’s industries, including tourism. 

Dr. Mohammed noted that Tanzania’s main airport does not apply such a levy on international flights, so Zanzibar abolishing the levy will harmonize taxes between the two regions.
